Generative art

All of the the art pieces on this site are generative, meaning they were generated from custom code. There is randomness built into the algorithms so that each piece comes out unique. The algorithms continue to evolve, so the art will also.

After the code processes a photograph and generates a drawing, the lines are sent to an Axidraw which draws the lines onto paper utilizing various pens and pencils to achieve desired effects depending on the piece.

About stirman

As far back as I can remember, I liked to create things. My passion for technology started when I got my first computer, a Commodore 64, and my love for combining art and technology emerged when I started creating custom ANSI art pieces for the pre-Internet BBS communities I belonged to.

I studied Computer Science in school and have been working in technology for 20 years. I’m a serial entrepreneur and have founded various companies. One of the first products I launched led me to a fortuitous meeting with the founders of Twitter, which in turn yielded a career in product leadership at both Twitter and Medium. I am currently the Founder and CEO of Lucid and leading a product R&D team called Z1 (zero-to-one product explorations) at Facebook.

I’ve been creating the art you see on this site as both an experiment in coding art and a response to the humbling outpouring of encouragement to create a place online to display and sell the various experiments as they emerge.

Thank you for stopping by! If there’s anything I can do for you, holler at hello@stirman.net. I look forward to hearing from you!

Much love <3
